My nightmare

Yesterday I had a horrible dream that scared me. I do not know why but I woke up in my dream, in a room very similar to mine, I got up of the bed, it seemed to be my own bed. I opened the room´s door and I went out to a very long and dark corridor, suddenly, the room´s door was closed at one stroke and when I looked to right of the corridor i could see a men without face holding my mum´s and dad´s heads, one in each hand. I began to run, but the corridor was never finishing.

When I woke up I thought ¨Luckily it was only a dream¨.

What are The Punctuation Marks in English Grammar?

Knowing where and when you have to use the punctuation marks can really improve your writing skills.

The period: (.) is placed at the end of a sentence, statements thought to be complete and after many abbreviations.
For example:  I used to go to the market with my brother.

Question mark: is used to indicate a direct question placed at the end of a sentence.
For example: Do you know when are going to be the exams?

Exclamation mark: is used when a person want to express a sudden outcry or add emphasis.
For example: Your son broke my window!

The coma: is used to separate ideas or elements within the estructure of a sentence.
For example: I´m going to buy bananas, apples, pears and some vegetables.

The semicolon: is used to conect independent clauses. It shows a closer relationship between the clauses than a period would show.
For example: John was hurt; he knew that she said it to upset him.

The colon: has two main uses:
* After a word introducing a quotation, an explanation, an example, or a serie.
For example: ¨I´m going to explain what is a library: it´s a place when you can look for books of all kinds.
* Within time expressions. It´s used to separate out the hour and the minute.
For example: It´s 12:30 am.

The dash: there are two kind of dashes: the emdash and the endash.
* The endash is a symbol (-) that is used to connect numbers or to connect elements of a compound adjective.
For example: 1994 - 2045
* The endash is used to indicate a break in thought or sentence structure, to separate two clauses or to introduce a phrase added for emphasis, definition or explanation.
For example: We just wanted to get three birds - but the clerk talked us into four pregnats parakeets.

The hypen: is the same symbol as the dash. Is used between the parts of a compound word or name or between the syllables of a word, especially when divided at the end of a line of text.
For example: back - to - back.

The parentheses: ( () ) are used to contain further thoughts or qualifying remarks.
For example: Matt and Kim (who were actually half brother and sister) have both blue eyes.

The brackets: ( [] ) at the bottom of each definition page, brackets surround a technical description of a word´s origin.

The braces: ( {} ) are used to contain two or more lines of a text or listed items to show that they are considered as a unit. They are not commonplace in most writing.

The apostrophe: is used to indicate the omision of a letter or letters from a word, the possessive case, or the plural of lowercase letters.
For example: Riki´s cat scratches.

Quotation marks:  ( ¨¨ ) are used to mark the beginning and end of a passage attributed to another and repeated word for word.

Single quotation mark: ( ´ ) is used for quotes within quotes.

The ellipses: is generally repesented by three periods (...) although it is occasionally demonstrated with three asterisks (***). The ellipses are used to indicate an omission, especially of letters or words. Ellipses are frequently used within quotations to jump from one phrase to another.

Landscape

I wish I could ever have or, at least, visit a cabin like this. I love the nature and the animals that live there, free, without any worries.
In this picture we can see a beautiful landscape full of harm and peace, there is a river that passes just above the cabin and a lot of trees and plants, every green, without any withered plant or tree.
I feel very comforted seeing this picture, it gives me peace. I could be wonderful to go with your friends or with your couple to rest a couples days in a place like this, I´m sure that if you go there, when you come back to your noisy and full of people town, the most probably is that you miss this place.
I know that the owner of that cabin is a very quite and graceful person.

Are cellphones necessary in teenagers´ lifes?

In today´s modern society, many feel as if having a cellphone is a necessity. Every where you go, there is a constant texting and talking on cellphones. Recent studies have shown that the largest group of phone users is teenagers. Teenagers in the past have done just as well  without cellphones, so why do teenagers nowadays require cellphones? Cellphones are not necessary in teenagers´lives because they are distractions, cost up to a fortune, and can be misused in several ways.

Cellphones are becoming more and more developed, with far more abillties and applications than before. Cellphones can now be used for texting, talking, going on Facebook, taking pictures/ videos, playing games, and millions more. Cellphones  are becoming an alternative for computers. Teens are beginning to have cellphones on hand all the time. The average teen uses his/her cellphone for approximately eight hours on a day to day basis. With cellphones being used so much, when do teens have time to focus on school work and their families? Cellphones play a major role as distractions in the typical lives of several teens.

With the increasing number of applications and uses of cellphones, the cost of using them and maintaining is increasing. The average bill of one cellphone comes up to at least 30$ a month. Each application use has a cost. If a cellphone cost approximately 30$ a month to maintain, it would total up to more than 300$ a year. Imagine how many uses 300 dollars could pay for. The money spent on cellphones could be use towards a teenager´s education or another worthy cause. Why spend so much money on cellphones when you could just use your home phone? They are a waste of money.

The most immese disadvantage of cellphones is that they can be misused fairly easily. Cellphones are easy to store in your pocket and are convenient to use on the go. This is why many teenagers use their phones to cheat on their tests, cyberbully other teens, etc. Teenagers with phones know exactly how to function each and every aspect of their phones, from where to store cheat notes, to how to text others without their own number being shown. Cellphones enable teens to get away with such unethical acts. Cellphones are danger threats to teenagers if they are used with wrong intentions.

Cellphones have their many benefits and advantages indeed, but their disadvantages outweigh their good purposes. Teenagers are beginning to live their lives evolved around this latest technology trend, but little do they know that cellphones are leading them to unsatisfying lifes. Cellphones are not a necessity to teenagers because they only play as distractions in their lives, enable them to be unethical citizens, and empty their wallets or the wallets of their parents. Cellphones are the newest technology gadgets leading teenagers to a downfalling life.

Black mirror

In the past ten years, technology has transformed almost every aspect of our lives before we have time to stop and wonder about it. On every desk, in every house and in every palm - a plasma screen, a monitor, a smartphone - a ¨black mirror¨ of our existence in the 21st century.
A lot of things that happen on the serie are just ¨dreams¨ or things that people wish could have in the future but that serie makes you understand the chaos that the present is causing us and what could happen if we continue with all our technological problems and how should not be our future.
The serie just have two seasons of three chapters in each one and one extra christmas chapter published in 2014. The directors told that year that they are going to premier a new season with twelve chapters in 2016.

Doomed

Cut off my wings and come lock me up
Just pull the plug yeah, I've had enough
Tear me to pieces, sell me for parts
You're all vampires so here

You can have my heart
You can have my heart
You can have my heart

The walls are a funeral, I run with ghosts
No hint of movement, no sign of pulse
Only an echo, just skin and bone
Then kick the chair but we, we help tie the rope

You can have my heart
You can have my heart
You can have my heart

So come rain on my parade
Cause I want to feel it
Come shove me over the edge
Cause my head is in overdrive
I'm sorry but it's too late
And it's not worth saving
So come rain on my parade
I think we're doomed
I think we're doomed
And there is no way back

You must of made some kind of mistake
I asked for death, but instead I'm awake
The devil told me "No room for cheats"
I thought I sold my soul, but he kept the receipt

So leave the lights on I’m coming home
It's getting darker but I carry on
The sun won't shine here, it never did
And when it rains, it fucking pours
But I think I like it
And you know that I'm love with the pain
I think I like it

So come rain on my parade
Cause I want to feel it
Come shove me over the edge
Cause my head is in overdrive

I'm sorry but it's too late
And it's not worth saving
So come rain on my parade

I think we're doomed
I think we're doomed
And there is no way back
I think we're doomed
I think we're doomed
And there is no way back

So come rain on my parade
Cause I want to feel it
Come show me over the edge
Cause my head is in overdrive

I'm sorry but it's too late
And it's not worth saving
So come rain on my parade

I think we're doomed
I think we're doomed
And there is no way back

Every culture has a great collection of wise sayings that advice you about how to live your life. They are also called ¨proberbs¨. Space Debris

Nowadays, there is a lot of trash in the space. This trash is called ¨space debris¨ or ¨space junk.¨ They all travel at speeds up to 17,500 mph, fast enough for a relatively small piece of orbital debris to damage a satelite.

The researchers just have 2 misions: know everything about the space and earn money. Doing this two things they are causing pollution and damage in the space. When a small piece of debris collides with a space station of, for example, the NASA, the pieces of the station that were broken are going to enter in our orbit and probably fall into the sea, but what happened if it falls in a big city such us New York?

On the other hand, researchers help us a lot predicting when is going to collide debris on Earth and even prevent it, so we can say that they produces damages but they repared it too.

In the end, researchers are helping us to know the world we are living in, but we, the same as them, have to prevent risk of pollution and space debris because if we do not stop this, one day a big rock or a massive pollution will destroy our earth and we do not want this, or yes..?

How is the universe?

A well-known scientist (some say it was Bertrand Russell) once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the center of a vast collection of starts called our galaxy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said; ¨What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.¨ The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, ¨What is the tortoise standing on?¨ ¨You are very clever, young man, very clever,¨ said the old lady. ¨But it is turtles all the way down!¨

Most people would find the picture of our universe as an infinite tower of tortoises rather ridiculous, but why do we think we know better? What do we know about the universe, and how do we know it? Where did the universe come from, and where is it going? Did the universe have a beginning, and if so, what hapenned before then? What is the nature of time? Will it ever come to an end? Recent breakthroughts in physics, made possible in part by fantastic new technologies, suggest answers to some of these longstanding questions. Someday these answers may seem as obvious to us as the earth orbiting the sun- or perhaps as ridiculous as a tower of tortoises. Only time (whatever that may be) will tell.

Conclusion of ¨The Hazards Of Moviegoing¨

To sum up, it is much better to stay at home, you do not have to deal with the problems that society and bad-mannered people involve. And do not forget about the amount of money that you will save. By the end of the year you will be able to buy the cinema itself so nobody is going to disturb you.

Incurable diseases

Incurable diseases do not exist, that is my point of view. People who think that there are diseases that cannot be cured are wrong, but the medias make us believe that there are many of them imposible of curing. It is because the research centers do not want to show to the public the cure because of its expensive costs. For example:
¨Natural medicine has been around for thousands of years with great success. The likes of Traditional Chinese Medicine, (TCM), from China and Ayurvedic Medicine from India are two such long-standing examples. Under these healing systems the body is quite capable of healing itself. In fact, that is exactly what is encouraged most often. Radical intervention is the exception and only used as a last resort. Under this holistic model a thorough diagnosis of the cause of the disease is gathered and an appropriate attempt to remove the imbalance is procured. Disease can only be healed holistically by removing the cause, (physical, emotional, or energetic), and assisting the body back into balance.¨

Bonfire Night Origin

The Story of Guy Fawkes

Bonfire Night (also known as Guy Fawkes Night) originates from the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, a failed conspiracy by a group of provincial English Catholics to assassinate the Protestant King James I of England and replace him with a Catholic head of state.

Guy fawkes was born on April 13th, 1570 in Yorkshire. His parents were called Edward and Edith. When he was 6 years old he went to the Free School of St. Peter´s.

In 1593, he joined the Spanish Army. Fawkes was described as a man of ¨excellent god natural parts, very resolute and universally learned.¨ Others noted his religious devotion and his punctual attendance at religious ceremonies. After the army, he returned to England.

In March 1605, the conspirators hired a cellar beneath Parliament. They filled the cellar with barrels of gunpowder. Fawkes was in charge of the gunpowder. Eight months later, on the night of November 4th, the cellars of Parliament were searched after the authorities recieved an anonymous letter. They found Fawkes with matches and arrested him.

Early on November 5th, 1605, Fawked was questioned. One of his questioners was James I. Fawkers said that he wanted to blow a Scotsman back to Scotland. On November 6th, James I gave the permission for the torture of Fawkes to progress from the ¨gentler tortures¨ to the ¨worst.¨ The next day, Fawkes broke his silence. He confessed that five men were involved in the plot. On November 8th, he told them the plan, and on November 9th, he named the others plotters.

On Friday 31st January 1606, Fawkes was executed for treason.

Little is known about the earliest celebration. Nowadays, Fawkes´ effigy is traditionally burned on a bonfire, commonly accompanied by a firework display.

A beautiful day

¨There is not a cloud today
Just a sky of blue
As the sun shines bright
It feels so new

As you walk down the street
You can see smiles from all around
It looks like everyone
Came to town

To enjoy the summer´s day
And let time stand still
For a little while
Just until¨

Rock music vs Classical music

People who listen to rock music and others who listen to classic music have so different ways of thinking about music, but also they have similarities.

First of all, both are music styles and have similar chords and rhythms. Rock music is louder and (usually) faster than classical. However, classic music have more variety of sounds than a rock band normally use. Another similarity is that both use string instruments such as violin, guitar, etc. A last contrast between this two music styles is the different kind of people that listen to it, usually people that listen to classic music are parents or people over 40 years, why? Because this is the style of music that they used to hear in their adolescence. The people that listen to rock music are usually teens and under 30 years, both have different styles of clothes. Although i said that, you might be surprised knowing the style of music that some people listen to. For example, my housemate´s father loves hardcore music, it´s just amazing!

Incurable diseases and peer response by Alejandra

Incurable diseases don´t exist, thats my point of view. People who think that there´re diseases that cannot be health are wrong, but the medias make us believe that the´re are many imposible of curing. It´s because the research centers don´t want to show to the public the possible cure because of it´s expensive cost.

One solution could be investigate the situation and try to find evidences of what they are really doing in order to have something against the people who work in the research centers. After that we could report this situation and places using the help of the goberment or some ONG.

Halloween

We´re October 29, 2015. There are only two days for Halloween so I think that this is appropiate to write about the origins of it:

While there are many versions of the origins and old customs of Halloween, some remain consistent by all accounts. Different cultures view Halloween somewhat differently but traditional Halloween practices remain the same.

Halloween culture can be traced back to the Druids, a Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and Northern Europe. Roots lay in the feast of Samhain, which was annually on October 31st to honor the dead.

Samhain signifies "summers end" or November. Samhain was a harvest festival with huge sacred bonfires, marking the end of the Celtic year and beginning of a new one. Many of the practices involved in this celebration were fed on superstition.

The Celts believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. Since not all spirits were thought to be friendly, gifts and treats were left out to pacify the evil and ensure next years crops would be plentiful. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating.

In Spain it´s just a free-day, we don´t celebrate anything, it´s only an excuse to dress up and go night out with your friends, but uhm, I really enjoy it!!

Nuclear Weapons

Nowadays there are a lot of countries that have hidden warheads if a serious problem occurs. The nuclear energy also have another functions like the production of ¨clean energy¨. Each day, more and more countries are getting nuclear weapons for ¨feeling safer¨. Just one warhead could destroy an entire country, without thinking about the advances that the warheads have had since the Second World War. Apart from the huge destruction that these weapons could originate, we have to think about the pollution and the radioactivity that these would expand.

One solution to this big problem could be reduce the number of nuclear weapons and spend that time and money building factories to convert the the nuclear energy into clean and usable energy. There would not be nuclear wars and the money would be destined for a good intention. Say no to war!. War is costly, peace is priceless.

Man on the edge

In the video we watched a man on the top of a buiding preparing to jump to the floor of the street, that is, he will commit suicide. This is because he had serveral problems that are explained on the video, such as, her break up with his girlfriend and the lost of his job for excess workers.

The people in the street are preparing many mattresses to prevent his dead but they are not sure if it will work. Suddenly his girlfriend appears and tried to convince him that this is a madness. When he is preparing to jump she shouts: ¨I´m pregnant!¨ He regained the consciusness and sayed: ¨Ok, I am fine, I am not going to jump¨. When they were going back to the building he slipped with the floor and felt crashing into the mattresses. He lived, but with injuries all over his body because of the fall.

                                                 Stressed Out- Twenty One Pilots

¨I wish I found some better sounds no one´s ever heard,
I wish I had a better voice that sang some better words,
I wish I found some chords in an order that is new,
I wish I didn´t have to rhyme every time I sang,

I was told when I get older all my fears would shrink,
But now I´m insecure and I care what people think.¨

¨Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days,
When your momma sang us to sleep but now we´re stressed out.¨

¨Sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when I was young,
How come I´m never able to identify where it´s coming from,
I´d make a candle out of it if  I ever found it,
Try to sell it, never sell out of it, I´d probably only sell one.¨

¨We used to play pretend, give each others different names,
We would buy a rocketship and then we´d fly far away,
Used to dream of outer space but now they´re laughing at your face,
Saying, <Wake up, you need to make money >.¨

                                                 Low-stress job vs stressful job

When you were young, your relatives and the people arround you always asked you questions such as: What are you going to be in the future? What kind of job would you like? The kids sometimes answered: I want to be an astronaut, a football player, a medic, etc.
I always have been a bit lazy, I admit it, but I loved everything about languages since I was 6, so I decided to study them. I think that work as a teacher is one of the low-stress careers in which you can work in. You schedule your own classes and you decide (normally) what and when are you going to teach something to your students, inside of a main programation.
Jobs like lawyer, banquer or waitress are very stressful jobs, at least for me. You have to do everything that your boss asks of you and you must comply.
In conclusion, it´s hard to choose a correct job to work in, but the hardest part is to select a job that suits perfectly with your way of life.

Description of someone and peer response by Alejandra

I´m going to talk about my beautiful cat. He is my baby, and he is like a little tiger. His name is Sam. He is white and brown with a soft coat.Although he is sometimes a bit asshole and lazy,he loves playing with me. My housemate and I picked him up from an animal protection when he was just a baby with two month.Even though he has a bent tail, it´s very funny to see it! I love him so much and I hope he will stay with me until he die.

Dear Riki, the text is great but it could be better with a little more of conexion between sentences. I also like to see a topic sentence. I know that your next text will be better than it, and that´s true that you´re going to improve your grammar skills a lot during the course. Good luck!

Guernica, Picasso.

It makes me feel a little bit strange, I can feel the desesperation of the people and animals that appear on the paint. The author try to reflect the panic and the agony of the people who lived in Guernica. The people were suffering by soldiers who were atacking the city of Guernica the 26th of april 1937.
Now, I´m going to describe a few things of the painting: is a mural-sized oil painting on canvas by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, use a palette of gray, black and white, is known as one of the most moving and powerful anti-war paintings in history. The mural shows the suffering of people, animals and buildings wrenched by violence and chaos.

                                             Fear of

Fear of the dark.
Fear of clowns.
Fear of remembering the past.
Fear of my dark part.
Fear of being bad.
Fear of thinking how many days are left.
Fear of staying alone at home.
Fear of the big forest.
Fear of telling lies.
Fear of running out of money.
Fear of feeling unsafe.
Fear of feeling guilty.
Fear of dying alone.
Fear of feeling ashamed of being who I am.
Fear of letting go.
Fear of what I have become.
Fear of not believing in god.
Fear of lying in bed at night all alone, eternal sadness my only friend.
Fear this day will end just like the one before.
Fear of waking up to find nothing has changed.
Fear of not loving and fear of never being truly loved.
Fear of the nothingness I feek ever since you left.
Fear of the memories you left behind.
Fear of you.
I´ve said that.

Writing techniques

In our last class of drafting practices we learned three methods of prewriting:
  • Brianstorming: It consists in writing any word that pass through your head but related to the main topic to have a some ideas of what you can write on your essay, for example.
  • Freewriting: It´s a technique in which a person start writing continuously for a set period without regard to spelling or grammar. It´s similar as brianstorming but in freewriting you write sentences to form a paragraph about whatever comes to your mind.
  • Mapping: is a form of note taking that uses graphic organizers and diagrams to organize information. It is useful for those who learn best with visuals, and those who like to organize information neatly.
In my opinion i think that the most useful methods of prewriting is the mapping because you can put the main topic and from this putting into various subtopics and go matching them with the subtopics that are equivalent or similar.

LIFE

¨Life is like falling leaves, you should take the greatest possible advantage of this when you´re in the top of the tree. If you fall before having done the best of you, your life may have no sense¨.
